BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 David Hyde

David has served as an officer in the National Federation of the Blind, the nations� largest organization of blind people since 1974. His experience includes service as state president of the Oregon State affiliate for thirteen years, as a member of the national board of directors, and on the board of the National Federation of the Blind of Wisconsin, and the Rock County chapter. He has worked for the state library in Oregon, as adult rehabilitation teacher at the Colorado Center for the Blind in Littleton Colorado and currently provides professional development for teachers and others through the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Janesville, WI. He is a graduate of the Oregon State School for the Blind, and Oregon State University with a degree in psychology. He has written articles in The Braille Monitor, as well as several Kernel Books published by the National Federation of the Blind. His hobbies include writing, legislative work, political involvement and, of course, helping blind and visually impaired children exceed expectations

Nancy Smith

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater with a degree in special education, Nancy elected to continue her special training by pursuing a degree that would prepare her for teaching children with visual impairment. She received a Masters Degree in the teaching of children with extreme emotional disturbance. While teaching visually impaired children in 2nd grade for 5 years, Nancy developed the current Birth to Three coordinators position for the State of Wisconsin. This position created and instructed in-service workshops and materials necessary to identify evaluate and serve these very special children. During Nancy�s 30+ years in this position, 287 children, from birth to 6 years of age were identified and served. Nancy retired in 2004, but continues to serve multi-handicapped vision impaired children all over the state of Wisconsin as a consultant and speaker/presenter.

Debi Meng

Debi is the grandparent/guardian of her 5 year old grandson, who has been blind since 5 months of age due to Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). She is the Inventory Manager  for Colony Brands located in Monroe, WI. She and her family currently reside in Gratiot, a small rural village in the southwest corner ofWisconsin. She has hands on experience with active learning equipment and has assisted her creative husband in the development of highly effective devices that have enhanced her grandson�s growth. Grandson Jonathon, has spent many enjoyable hours learning thru guided play during the first few years of his life. Debi often attributes Jonathon�s curiosity and love of exploration to the active learning environment made available to him.

Don Smith

Don is a Certified Public Account with 25 years of experience before retiring. For 15 years Don was the Business Manager for Blackhawk Technical College. Don is the husband of Director Nancy Smith and has shared her passion for these children children's education and care all his life. Don assumes the primary responsibility for all charity financial requirements. We are very grateful he has agreed to share his expertise and experience as a valued Director.
